I certainly wouldn’t trust UC Berkley with this. I wouldn’t even trust UT Arlington, where I went to school, with that kind of information about me. The more information you have about someone, the more control you have over them. Do you want a loony lib institution like that controlling you?

This is a scientific experiment and i’m guessing the student can opt out, my DNA is already in the hands of the US government along with every other individual who has joined the military in last several years. I don’t lose any sleep over it.

Seems kind of creepy to me. I will guarantee you the ACLU will oppose this. No matter what you think, this is the sort of issue that gets the ACLU in an uproar.

Actually, reading the article, it is a voluntary project:

“The entire process is confidential according to Jasper Rine, a campus professor of genetics and development biology who will oversee the project.

Each student will receive two bar code labels: one to attach to the cheek swab sample and one to keep. The lab will keep no record of which student receives what bar code. Once the samples are returned, the results will be put in an online database and the students can access their results.”

But it still seems a little creepy. Too much personal information is floating around these days. Why add to the pool?
