Question by RLP: Why is UC Berkely now asking for DNA samples of incoming freshmen…I know what they say…but…WHY?
The students will be asked to voluntarily submit a DNA sample. The cotton swabs will come with two bar code labels. One label will be put on the DNA sample and the other is kept for the students own records.

The confidential process is being overseen by Jasper Rine, a campus professor of Genetics and Development Biology, who says the test results will help students make decisions about their diet and lifestyle.

Once the DNA sample is sent in and tested, it will show the student’s ability to tolerate alcohol, absorb folic acid and metabolize lactose.

The results of the test will be put in a secure online database where students will be able to retrieve their results by using their bar code.

Rine hopes that this will excite students to be more hands-on with their college experience.

i never knew this existed till recently, but i do get a few of the symptoms listed, and im hugely lonely lately :(, anyone else feel they might have this?

We dated for 3 years, we were so inlove. HAd the most perfect relationship, no secrets.. we fought ofcourse.. but then someone told him i cheated on him the whole time he was in rehab and i didnt. Nowe he broke up with me and he has had 2 girlfriends since the 2 weeks we have been broken up.. and he got them like the day after we broke up. I just dont get how he can be so happy and move on so fast. His mom told me after someone told him i cheated he sat in his room sad for like 3 days and he called me and told me to enver talk or look at him again. And at school he basiclly ignores me.. except for today.. he talked to me alittle but he acted like nothing even happened with us ever. Like we hadnt spent 3 years together. he sits there and talks about his new girlfriend.. He tells everyone he is over me and moved on and its only been 2 weeks. I don’t know what to do? I still love him and i know he has to love me deep down. Do you think he will relaise things later on if i give him space?
I was the bigger person and said hi when i walked past him the other day.. and that day he acknowledged me more than any other day since we broke up. I catch him stairing at me, until i look at him.. He hasnt even tried to call or talk to me since we broke up..

I have so many questions about the one addiction I don’t understand. What do the significant others do to save sanity, and when is enough? Should you confront the person, or send subtle hints that you’re aware of the goings on? It’s gotten to the point that my boyfriend stays up all night, comes home from work once an hour to masturbate in secret, and then tells me he has no sex drive because of our finances right now. No sex drive? He masturbates 15-20 times a day! That’s very deceitful and I feel our relationship is a lie, that he leads a double life. I’m sick of literally begging for attention. I can’t compete with the images online! He’s in denial, and it’s ruined what we have left of our relationship. Is there any hope, or should I run?

The Left’s tolerance knows no bounds. Practiced in the art of understanding and forgiving human foibles, and averse to the “judgment” they find so intolerable in those who think there are actually values such as right and wrong, good and bad, virtue and evil, liberals demonstrate every day how morally evolved they are. No matter how egregious or even illegal the behavior, they say it’s either a “private matter” or “irrelevant.” For instance:

* President Bill Clinton’s serial philandering, years-long Oval-office affair with a White House intern, and conviction and disbarment for perjury.
* Presidential candidate John Edwards’ cheating on his cancer-ridden wife and fathering a child with his girlfriend.
* Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt becoming the parents of six children but not getting around to marrying.

* Jodie Foster, Jessica Alba, Nicole Richie, and other Hollywood denizens “choosing” to have babies without getting married, including teenagers Jamie Lynn Spears, Keisha Castle Hughes, Solange Knowles, et al. – which Hollywood celebrates in movies like “Juno.” Uncountable celebrities and politicians’ “acting out” with driving-under-the-Influence and drug arrests, stints in rehab, relapses.

“It’s none of anyone’s business,” the understanding liberals intone. “It’s not related to the job they do!”

Except, that is, when these moral arbiters decide that it’s everyone’s business and highly relevant to the “public’s right to know.”

My boyfriend and I live together. We recently got some pot. I smoke minimally when I do, just to relax. He has been smoking it without me when I’m not around. I get him to admit it by joking. However, sometimes I can’t tell if he is, when I ask he says no. I obviously can tell he is, but I second guess it. Don’t know why he won’t tell me he’s smoking and let me join……after 1.5 year together, this is the first time we have been in this situation, the smoking is recent. He hasn’t used anything during the time we’re together that I know of, but we have spent a lot of time together. Here’s the question: how can I get him to tell my WHY he’s doing this? He’s playing games to start by making it a secret……is this addiction or him just being a jerk?

I hate it when people ask me how my mom is. As a kid she was VERY verbally abusive to me and she is also an alcoholic. She has been physically abusive to me on occasions as well. I am now an adult and I don’t have very much to do with her, but members of my (deceased) father’s family will often ask me how she is doing and one of my college friends just asked me for he address so she could mail my mother a Christmas card. Most of these people are people who know at the very least that my mother and I do not get along. She is good at hiding her alcoholism and when I would try to talk to people about the things she would say to me as a kid people would just say, “Oh, she is your mom, she loves you,” or, “you know when you grow up you will be best friends.” I think people have a lot of trouble believing that a mother could be this way, especially people who are close to their own mothers. And so when they ask me how she is doing I usually just say I don’t know I don’t see her that much, but people either look at me like they feel sorry for HER, or they look at me like I am stupid for not knowing how my own mother is. So my question is how SHOULD I handle things like this? I am the oldest in my family so this sort of question falls on me a lot, but now that I am an adult I just try not to think about her and what my Dad’s death turned her into. I just like to live my life and be happy so I wish people would just ask me about me and my husband when they talk to me. I don’t care how she is. Probably drunk and angry, that is how she is.

I was told by the drug screening company that they tested for the “Big 5″ (marijuana, cocaine, amphetamines, opiates (heroin, opium, codeine, morphine) and Phencyclidine (PCP).) I consented to the test. I received a call from them yesterday asking me if I took paxil, xanax, vicodin, trazodone, and a prescription anti-inflamatory. I was shocked and mad that they did beyond a big 5 and even beyond a narcotic screen! Now they want me to fax them proof from my doctor of what I take and WHY I take it. This is for a call center job for a wireless company. I feel this is a violation of my rights (HIPAA) and they have no right to now recind the job offer because I take prescription medication. Especially because the vicodin and xanax were taken recently for major oral surgery. Do I legally have to provide them with this info to get the job? And can they legally lie about the test they are doing on me?
