Question by luxyfoxy: I work at a drug & alcohol rehab, what are some good topics for supervision?
I have weekly supervision with my supervisor and we need other topics besides talking about specific clients. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Best answer:

Answer by jll1881
Having worked in the same field for several years, I have had many hours of supervision – both as the supervisor and supervisee. In addition to clients, I have talked about what is going on in my life – nothing too in depth, but be honest with your supervisor if you are experiencing more stress than usual, etc. Also, if you have questions about topics you might want to get more training in, you can ask your supervisor about upcoming trainings or workshops on those topics. Keep up the good work!

Question by Jess Derrick: Some questions about Narcotics Anonymous…?
My therapist is really pushing for me to join a support group of this type. I’m agnostic, but there are no S.O.S. or SMART Recovery meetings that fit my schedule. If I go to NA, will I be pressured to ‘work the steps’? Quitting using is ok – I have done that for the most part anyway – but I simply cannot buy that I am ‘powerless’ over drugs, nor can I give it up to some ‘higher power’. I know they say your higher power can be however you understand it, even a kitchen chair, blah blah blah…but I think the entire notion is silly.

So…if I want to go to the meetings and benefit from camaraderie and information, is it likely I’ll be pressured to speak or to ‘work the steps’ if I want to keep going?
Reflex, I don’t think I’m powerless at all. I’m pretty sure I said that in my original question.

I’m tying to keep seeing my therapist on an individual basis, and not be transferred to group therapy.

Best answer:

Answer by Many Shades of Gray
NA and AA are bunk as far as I’m concerned, both in their religious tone and in their idea that people are “powerless” over their addictions, but they can’t make you work the steps. You’ll have to listen to the drivel if you attend, but you don’t have to accept it. You can still benefit from going and connecting with some of the other members though, and when you talk with some of them on a one-on-one basis, I think you’ll find that there are some reasonable people who also see things the way you do about recovery and addiction.

There was one other group that’s specifically secular in nature and has a message that I found to be much more beneficial to recovery, but for the life of me I can’t remember what it is. It’s been many many years. If I can recall, I’ll come back and edit details or e-mail you.

But yeah, just for the hell of it, go and attend the meetings, take everything with a grain of salt, and try not to gag when they tell you you can’t get clean without God. That’s a blatant lie, and I’m living proof of that.

<edit> @ reflexologist – wow, you really swallowed that kool-aid hard, didn’t you. Quoting right from the Blue Book I see. Complete and utter nonsense. If you like being a slave to meetings, then be my guest, but I like my normal life full of normal people and not having to go and reinforce my “helplessness” every day.

If doctors all thought the way you did, we’d still be curing diseases with voodoo.</edit>

I was wondering if anyone could help me? I am 100% sure I was fired last week because of statements made by my former employer to my THEN current employer. My current employer knew many things he could not have known without speaking to my former manager. For example my then boss know all about my stint in rehab which was several years ago! He also knew about a demotion that I was forced to take, and a written warning I received etc etc. My question is there any way I can prove that my former company slandered me to the current company??? If so how??? PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!

The truth about Nicole’s miscarriage & the truth about Mia having a baby instead of the rehab story coming out & Daniel engaged to Chloe. I know Victor’s not thrilled but Daniel isn’t his son & a wuss like Phillip I think Daniel will tell Victor to accept his marriage to Chloe or he will be gone & since Victor places value on family just might. I don’t think Daniel is going to let Victor talk crap about her in his presence do you? Calling her a tramp . It seems every woman in Salem is a “tramp” to Victor except Caroline & maybe Hope lol. I guess that’s more than 1 question but watch out Mia & Nicole & I’m crossing my fingers Meredith doesn’t kill Rafe or bury him alive
Yes I have read the same site & info lol Just looking for people’s take on what’s going on. I use that ! & soapcentral.com. Thanks.
I know what’s going to happen but they never tell us everything: what would be the point? I hope Rafe is somehow found & rescued so he can bust Nicole & get Sami back

I’m always worrying that one thing I do will lead to losing my parents or to hurting them (I literally live in paranoia of this). I was raised to be a good liar and to lie to everyone (not intentionally, but I just knew that being unhappy was selfish and since I was depressed as a child I knew to become a faker). I guess that paved the way for the day when an eating disorder would take over my life, because I knew that I could hide my food the way I do my true emotions and that I could just lie about eating. It’s been years since that all took hold in my life and I thought I was spared from hurting my family and that my eating disorder was somehow content to ruin everything except for my family. I’m realizing now though that I was wrong. I’ve tried getting rid of my eating disorder, but it’s so much a part of me (even my thoughts unrelated to food are tainted by it). Now I see that what I thought was rock bottom was probably more of a middle period. I can’t seem to stop it, but in being unable to stop it I have to hurt my parents. They push food on me so often and I just want to say no. I’m scared though that they’ll never forgive me. I don’t blame my dad for his alcoholic outbursts or when he throws things when he’s mad, but while my parents can accept alcoholism or the illegal activities of my sibling (which he got in trouble for with the police already, so I don’t mean anything against them) my eating disorder would be the ultimate disappointment (I’m the one who they rely on, the one who never disobeys, the one who is still there loving them after they take their anger out on me, etc., and something as simple as saying no to food would earn me their hatred).

I just wish I could know that one day it would all be worth it and that maybe one day they’d understand and realize that it’s not an attack upon them and that I turned to my eating disorder because at first it helped me to keep on showing them how happy I was when they couldn’t help me when I asked them just once to do so.

Do you think some parents just can’t understand? Sometimes I read these articles or see eating disorder movies and ultimately the parents just want their child back, but that’s probably because parents who don’t understand don’t make for a story of love and support (I adore my parents, I just mean that they don’t udnerstand eating disorders- my mom would applaud me if she knew how long I can go without food and my dad would take it as a personal offense against the recipes he himself likes).

Thank you.

I have a very close friend – almost family really – that was doing meth for about 2-3 years. Noone knew and he got away with it for a long time. He was finally caught because his boss confronted him. His boss told him he had to go to rehab because meth is not something you can just stop ‘cold turkey’ without help. BUT he didn’t. He said he stopped, took a drug test {one of those hair tests that tests back 90 days} for work and passed but I’m scard that without this help he will eventually go back.

I have read statistics that say that only less than 6% of meth users go back to it if they don’t receive the proper treatment. Does anyone know if this is true? Any other statistics that you can share.

We want to become roommates but I’m scared that he will eventually go back to this.

Any information would be appreciated!

I have a very hard time with this. I just want to know if anyone has a reason they’ve heard or used themselves that justifies doing this to your baby… a infant that DEPENDS on you. I have 2 former friends that are doing this. Drugs I can somewhat understand, as they are an addiction that is near-to-impossible to quit without help and a strong resolve.
Ok, I know that smoking and drinking are also addictions. I used to smoke, but had no problem quitting when pregnancy was a possibility. My dad is an alcoholic, so, yes, I know. But, my opinion is, drugs like herion are SEVERLY addictive and mind-altering to a point where the person is no longer sane. I’m not excusing it, just understanding it.

What are some tips to get over my “addiction”..

(Addiction meaning: i can’t live without checking my account whenever i log onto a computer AND whenever I have a chance to check “facebook mobile” on my Blackberry)

I DO NOT want to delete my account, just reduce my useage somehow. But whenever I go on the computer, I just wander off on a Facebook journey for quite some time. It’s sad, i know! & i totally forget what I’m really on the computer for.

Thoughtful comments please!
Thanks in advance.

Can anyone relate?!?!?!?!?!?
