8 participants in local heroin, cocaine ring enter plea deals
David Brener, Hector Roman-Baez’s attorney, said his client’s operation wasn’t especially sophisticated. He said Baez was addicted to heroin and began dealing the drug. “What does it take?” Brener said. “For someone to go to Miami, buy the drugs, cut it up, come back and sell it? It’s not that sophisticated.” “This is a pretty run-of-the-mill distribution ring,” he said.

I am interested in joining the coast guard, but I have two misdemeanor charges on my record. Both are related to smoking pot. One occurred when I was 14 (I was really only charged with trespassing, and it’s expunged). And the other when I was 18, the charges were dismissed. I have never been convicted of anything, except a couple of speeding tickets when I was 16. I’m currently 23 and I have a B.A. degree in political science. I’m only interested in being in the enlisted service, not officer training. As would seem pretty obvious to just about any casual observer. I smoked pot from time to time when I was in high school and tried cocaine a couple times. I Have never been addicted to anything, and have never been hospitalized, sent to counseling, or rehab for drug use, but I fear that it might be a problem.

The last thing I want to do is lie about any of this, because I don’t want to get in trouble for it.

I consider myself to be a pretty smart person, and I think I would be of good use to the CG. Were I to be accepted despite my past lapse in judgement would my past bar me from gaining certain security clearances. I don’t want to work in intelligence I would rather do operations, so what are the odds that I would need something like top secret clearance for a job in a field like rescue operations.

Also, when they conduct the interviews for top secret clearance, how many people do they usually talk to. This part really freaks me out, because unfortunately some of my former friends don’t like me very much, and I’m worried that they might be a little bit too truthful If you get what I mean?

I am applying for a position which requires a Secret Security Clearance issued from the DOD. I am not asking whether or not to disclose certain information , but whether or not I have a chance at obtaining the clearance based on the situation I will be disclosing. Here’s the scenario:

In High School, I experimented with marijuana. I also tried MDMA twice. I was arrested for the possession of MDMA and spent 1 year in an outpatient rehabilitation program. After successful completion, all the charges were withdrawn against me, by rule of Drug Court, and my record was expunged. I was a minor at the time.

Since this incident, I have moved on with my life. I do not take any drugs, and I have been in a debt management program for over a year now ( financial item ). I have a few minor tickets, but nothing that is alarming. I’m only a few years out of college, but have a clear and obvious difference of lifestyle than the person which was arrested for 1 pill of MDMA.

I have read a lot in regards to the SF86 and Adjudication Desk Reference and anything else I can find, and cannot confirm whether or not my situation will clear, only that the ability to prove yourself is available for drug scenarios.

Please tell me with exact to semi-exact preciseness whether or not I should pursue this opportunity.
Just to re-clarify, because it seems the first two responses believed it was a juvenile offense – it was NOT. I was charged as an adult when I was a juvenile, which is why I had to go to a one year rehabilitation program to have it removed from my record.

Was caused by a defaulted student loan which I rehabilitated and is off my credit report all together through the rehabilitation program I used. I have no prior debts that were ever in collections.

Last month I joined the Navy with the rating of IT. I was told that because the position requires a top secret security clearance I may be given a polygraph test. I was completely truthful about everything except my past drug use. Up until a couple months ago I frequently smoked pot. I was never caught by the police, school, sent to rehab or any other situation which would show up on my record. I have also passed all drug tests given to me and will remain drug free for the remainder of my enlistment. The only reason I did not mention my old habit was because I was told by my recruiter not to. Are there any active or former sailors who could tell me what the likely hood is that I am actually given a polygraph? If I am, what type of questions will come up?
