Question by what’s up?: How do you get an 18year old into drug/alcohol rehab?
Our son needs help, but won’t admit it – won’t go.
He feels we are the problem. His life is spiraling downhill so quickly – and we are very worried about him and his future. Even counseling would be acceptible. Has anyone else experienced this with their teen? How did you get them to realize they need help, and get them to go. It would be much easier if he were 16 or 17, but he’s considered an adult. Serious responses only please. Thanks!

Tell him to go to counseling and rehab or a homeless shelter HIS CHOICE! Otherwise you are just enabling him to use drugs.

Question by CAITLYNN C: How can alcohol rehab help my brother?
It just seems like a way of extorting money from us. Can’t he get well all on his own?

Alcohol rehab is not a way of extorting money from people like you. They ask for fees simply because money is needed to make the program effective. Where else would they get the funds to better their facilities? How else are they going to pay for the medicines?

The fact that your brother is still an alcoholic right now means that he can’t do it on his own. He needs help, and that’s what he’s going to get inside an alcohol rehab. Being there would mean that he would have no supply of alcohol, and less temptation. Therapists, doctors, and healthcare providers would be taking care of him. These are the people who are very adept at handling cases like your brother’s. No doubt that they know what to do and how to deal with him. He needs attention, counseling, therapy and medication, four things that he can get inside an alcohol rehab.

I’m sure your brother will be ok. He needs your support when he goes out of rehab. You have to help him so that he won’t turn to alcohol again. Good luck and I hope he gets well soon enough.

Question by chelsea: Does anybody know where I can find an alcohol rehab in New York?
I want to turn my father in. His drinking habits are really affecting the family. He’s become temperamental and violent that he gets upset about the tiniest things. Like, just the other night, he punched my brother just because he asked for money to spend for his science project. My mom died a few years ago and I don’t know what else to do. I’m really worried about the future of our family.

Question by SHELTIELUVER: Has anyone gone to a residental drug rehab center or known someone that has and would recommend it?
I desperately need to get into a drug rehab center but I’d like to go to a fairly nice one. The problem is that they’re so expensive! I need to go atleast 42-60 days and would be willing to pay around ,000 at the most. I’m looking for a place that has a gym and nice facilities and is in a tranquil setting that has had a lot of positive feedback. It doesn’t have to be in the United States.

You are making a common 1st mistake. You are putting conditions on getting clean & sober. Must have gym, nice facilities, etc. Getting clean must be the most important thing in your life and it doesn’t matter where you go as long as it works. Just my opinion. Good Luck!
