SB 1071 is a bill designed to fund CURES, a real time online data base that will allow doctors and pharmacists in this state to instantly check whether their patients are doctor shopping or pharmacy hopping. On May 5, 2010 with more than 19 months of sobriety, Malibu Beach Recovery Center alumna Krissie Bergo, told her story to a press conference at the State Capitol in Sacramento held in support of SB 1071, a bill designed to fund CURES, a real time online data base that will allow doctors and pharmacists in this state to instantly check whether their patients are doctor shopping or pharmacy hopping. In 2006 Krissie, who never abused alcohol or street drugs, became hopelessly addicted to prescription pain medication. Suffering from carpel tunnel syndrome, RSD, and fibromyalgia, she went to a pain management doctor who put her on a lethal cocktail of pain medications, many reserved for cancer patients. By the time a Workmans Comp judge intervened and sent her to treatment for alcohol and drug addiction in September 2008, her insurance company had spent close to 0000 on her pain medication, mostly Class II narcotics. Krissie was almost comatose when she arrived at Malibu Beach Recovery Center. Her detox took 62 days, ten times more than most heroin addicts or alcoholics. Now Krissie still has pain, but she has found alternative methods of controlling the pain, and regularly attends Pills Anonymous (PA) meetings in addition to AA and NA meetings.

Joint Committee on Health Care Financing held a hearing on several bills related to data mining (S. 17, S. 19, H. 109, and H. 110). These bills prevent pharmaceutical companies from buying doctors prescribing records from pharmacies and using that information to target their marketing to physicians. Jasmin Weaver spoke about the need to protect patient privacy and gave the example of CVS/Caremark marketing on behalf of Merck to their pharmacy patients. When asked by Senator Candaras, Representative Grant and Representative DAmico, why this practice was not a violation of HIPAA, Weaver and Wilkinson replied that this practice is a loophole under HIPAA and is actually allowed. This law will close that loophole for Massachusetts.

I’ve really been scaring myself lately. I find myself increasingly anxious and depressed, mostly at night when there is nothing to do, and it’s at this time, when I’m lying in bed or surfing the web that my mind drifts to drugs. I keep thinking about taking the prescription drugs that I know are in my house just out of curiosity. I’ve never even smoked weed so I have no history of being drug-curious, but for some reason, the allure is there. During the day, I think about what was going through my head the night before and almost laugh at the stupidity of it, but then that night, it happens all over again. Anyone heard of exhibiting the psychological signs of addiction without having taken the drug? Anyway. My main question is: what the hell is wrong with me? Why am I thinking about these drugs, and how can I stop? And I should mention that I can’t really throw the drugs out because they belong to my parents; they’d probably notice and assume I was doing them anyway. (Irony, anybody?)
“That’s the dumbest thing I’ve heard in my life.”
Big fan of that show. And thanks for the response.

I have been addicted to prescription pain pills for almost 2 years, and my husband has no idea. My question is how do I beat my addiction without him knowing what is happening? I love him and my family and do not want to hurt them by telling them I am an addict. I know I can overcome my addiction I just need to know what kind of withdrawl symptoms I will have and how long they will last. And if there is anything else I need to know that will make the withdrawls a lot less obvious or if there is anything over the counter that will help with the withdrawl symptoms I would be forever greatful to anyone who can help me

I always thought he had a problem but when he got caught stealing money from my Grandparents he admitted to it.. I know it was to get a pity party which he did. He signed himself into a 72 hour detox just to keep from going to jail which also worked. He is seeing doctors and counselors that are also feeding into his BS and just keep giving him more scripts such as nerve pills, anti depressants and even lithium. Hee seems to have certain people in the family baffled but I know he didn’t even trying.. This was all just for pity… He is still taking things he shouldn’t. darvocet, whole bottles of motion sickness, tripling up on the pills he is given by doctors as well as snorting them…
I haven’t talked to him in weeks because I cannot handle the stress of watching him kill himself and as selfish as that might sound I told him that I love him and will be here for support but until he is done I am done.. I have tried for so long now to help him and all he does is screw anyone who tries to help him over… Cheating, stealing and telling lie after lie… I
He doesn’t want the right help, he is just doing what he has to do to not go to jail for previous violations and seeing doctors to keep getting some type of pill in his hands… As well as buying pills from his connection which I know who that is but am told by the local police they cant do anything unless they catch something in action..
I am lost and don’t know what to do… He has a woman that obviously loves him, 2 gorgeous kids and is only 20 years old he is throwing his life away and I don’t think there is anything I can do..
Can someone please tell me if I am wrong…

My brother has been getting it and I’ve been trying to figure out why I keep getting mysterious packages from China. Is that one of them?

Also, does anyone know how to help him get off of it without bringing him to rehab or using methadone? I know the withdrawals can be bad and i want to help
He is getting it off the internet and shipped to him through the mail.
