narcotics recovery

Question by Betwixt and Between: Any new mothers that are in recovery…?
…through a 12-step program such as Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, Overeaters Anonymous, Gamblers Anonymous etc., that care to break their anonimity?

And if so, how has it been, now that you’re a mom? Is your sponsor helpful? Does your homegroup welcome kids? Have you ever been asked to leave a closed meeting? Are you still able to do service work? Anything else you’d like to add or share, please?

My home group is the Thursday noon Brownbaggers Meeting, northeast PA area.
Brief summary of my own experience:
The Promises, that are read in many A.A. Meetings can be found on page 83-84, of the Big Book, Alcoholics Anonymous.
THE A.A. PROMISES
If we are painstaking about this phase of our development, we will be amazed before we are half way through. We are going to know a new freedom and a new happiness. We will not regret the past nor wish to shut the door on it. We will comprehend the word serenity and we will know peace. No matter how far down the scale we have gone, we will see how our experience can benefit others. That feeling of uselessness and selfpity will disappear. We will lose interest in selfish things and gain interest in our fellows. Self-seeking will slip away. Our whole attitude and outlook upon life will change. Fear of people and of economic insecurity will leave us. We will intuitively know how to handle situations which used to baffle us. We will suddenly realize that God is doing for us what we could not do for ourselves

*lol* Everyone thinks it is interesting but no-one is answering. I’m not in recovery, but here’s a “Way to go!” anyway.

I do hope they allow children under 1 to attend. Mothers should not be forced to separate from children under age 1. If they choose to that’s one thing. At the very least babies should be allowed until they are mobile.

That’s just my two cents though.

I have a very hard time with this. I just want to know if anyone has a reason they’ve heard or used themselves that justifies doing this to your baby… a infant that DEPENDS on you. I have 2 former friends that are doing this. Drugs I can somewhat understand, as they are an addiction that is near-to-impossible to quit without help and a strong resolve.
Ok, I know that smoking and drinking are also addictions. I used to smoke, but had no problem quitting when pregnancy was a possibility. My dad is an alcoholic, so, yes, I know. But, my opinion is, drugs like herion are SEVERLY addictive and mind-altering to a point where the person is no longer sane. I’m not excusing it, just understanding it.
