Question by Amanda: What’s it like visiting someone in drug rehab?
My boyfriend is at a 90-day residential drug rehab and wants me to visit him, he said I can stay the whole day, what’s it like? What will we do?

I can’t say for sure, since I’ve never had the experience. What you can do throughout the entire day is really up to the staff and whatever their policies and restrictions for visitors are.

Question by clare 3xr: I would like to find a low-cost alcohol rehab in Aptos, California. How?
My friend has gotten herself addicted to alcohol. She has just recently told me that she would like to get herself treated for this condition. The problem is, she doesn’t have enough money to finance the treatment costs. Any suggestions?

I think it would be good if she applies for a grant from the government. She can also use the second link below to contact alcohol rehabs and ask them if they would be willing to give her a discount or have her pay off her bills at a later date. If those don’t work, she could just opt to join AA. It will really help her. Good luck!

I’ve always known that my sister drinks alcohol, but I’ve always thought that it wasn’t a serious problem. She has just told me that she’s doing badly at work because she drinks too much. She’s thinking about getting herself treated and I’m supporting that option.

I’m glad you aren’t in denial because some relatives of alcoholics are. Please do continue on encouraging and supporting your sister. It will help her get through the whole ordeal. To find alcohol rehabs, you may use the links below. You can also ask her to go to a doctor so that she can get recommendations. Having her join AA will be beneficial too. Good luck! I do hope she gets herself treated soon.

Question by snag224: I would like to know if there are any anti-anxiety medications out there that are non- narcotic ?
I am currently on probation I can’t take anything that will come up on a drug test.I am also in recovery from alcohol.Can anyone tell me a good non-narcotic med that i can use. I currently suffer from anxiety and depression and it’s ruining my relationship I get mood swings too.

Question by Michelle: What happens when a patient tells their counselor they did something illegal, like having used illicit drugs?
Do counselors or other mental health professionals have to keep EVERYTHING you say confidential? Are their exceptions to this? Assuming the patient is an adult and the focus of their mental health treatment is not drug related. Could their counselor/Psychiatrist/etc report them to the police? Testify in court? Would this be recorded in their medical record? If they are currently being prescribed potentially addictive medications and admitted to occasional use of street drugs would they be forced to stop taking these medications? Thanks!

**update* * I understand the legal part better but is this bad to have on my medical records. If everything is supposed to be kept confidential, but when seeing a new Dr. they make me sign that release to see prior treatment information from other drs. I understand concerns about coordination of care and interactions, etc. My new Dr. refused to fill 2 of my (potentially addictive) meds. She quoted my medical record, my ex told (incorrect) info to a previous Dr. Help!

Wow that’s some good paranoia. The counselor is there to help, not play crime fighter plus the “crimes” committed with drug use are too non specific. Its the same reason that cops need to have drug busts with lots of evidence. Was it weed?

Ever since I was a child I’ve felt like I don’t belong. I just don’t seem to fit in to any group. That feeling I feel led me into 30 plus years of alcohol and drug addiction. I’ve been clean going on 3 years. I’ve been in a 12 step program, doing everything that is suggested of me to the best of my ability with the promise that I will know what happiness is. Often I feel that I welcome death. Because I already feel dead emotionally, mentally, spiritually, so why should I not be dead physically also? Is there really a reason I should be here?

Everyone always says AA meetings etc. They mean nothing to me because I don’t believe in God. I was in rehab for 3 months and that is all they preach out of too, is the “big book” AA. It totally turns me off, I drank every weekend on my passes away. I just wonder does anyone know of any way to quit an addiction without hawing to refer to God or a Higher Power or anything? There has to be a way. Help
This is not a religious question, so please if all you have to say is about God or something please refrain. I have nothing against other peoples beliefs, to each their own, I just dont personally believe, and never will so please don’t try to convert me, or call me the devil, or say I’m going to hell. I am very comfortable with my beliefs, and am quite content with them. I am not ignorant on religion either, I have read the bible”s” more than once. I did my research and have chosen not to believe. Ok This Is very Complicated. This last Feb. my bf and I got arrested. And of course i had to open my big mouth and tell the truth and we both went to jail but the thing about this is that when we went to jail on the 21st i got bonded out and James had to stay in jail. I felt so bad, i cry all the time because all we were trying to do was be together. I miss him so much and i want him to get out so bad but i dont have the money to post his bond. Anyway, James had all these secrets about his life and that I never thought I would have to encounter with one man. I mean i knew he was in a rehab but then i founde out that he had wife but that they were separated so i just let it go.Until whild he was in jail, about a month ago he told me that his daughter was writing him and he told me that he did’nt want to keep stuff fromand he didnt want to lie to me so he told me that his daughter was writing him. Well i was talking to my stepmother and she told me to write a letter to Chris , a guy i met last year tha james does not like, and accidently send it to James so I did. then she told me that I need to be careful because she wasent so sure he was not writing his wife in there. And that got me to thinking about everything that had been coming to light since i had got out of jail and since i had been talking to his sister. And i feel like he is just playing games with me and messing with my head. And I also think that when he gets out hs is going to go back to hsi wife and leve me with a broken heart. I need toknow what to do so i dont have to go through that. I love James to death and I dont want to leave him but i am not going to to be played with. I have better things to do thanto stick around and get my heart broken again. I just dont know what to do. Please help me.
