You can try an intervention, but if they don’t want help you can’t make them. I know it can be heartbreaking but sometimes people just have to hit a rockbottom point before they want help. Good Luck with everything.

he has been my close friend since the 8th grade.. now we are 20 yrs old.. he recently started drugs around 2 months ago.. he has been smoking crack cocaine.. for the last two months he had remained aloof.. he would not talk to anyone.. never picked up the phone .. then after my constant nagging he gave in and told me about the drugs.. it seems he has even been selling his textbooks for the money.. he does not want me to tell his parents because he is scared that they may take him out of college and screw him badly.. i am now confused.. i know he is in desperate need for help .. i want him to go to rehab but he says that he is gonna gradually taper off it until he does not need it anymore.. but i know coming outta drugs is not that easy without external support.. he has become thinner and is also losing hair from his body.. please people give me some advice..

Okay, I’m 14 and my aunt has been a crack addict for 20 years. I only found out that she has been doing drugs this long since last october. After her husband died about 3 years ago, life has been pretty hard for her. Her drug addiction became worse. She started stealing money from our family, and scamming insurance companies. Last october, my aunts new boyfriend threatened to kill my father. My dad became furious, and refuses to see my aunt. He knows what cracks addicts are like, and so do i, and he does not want to have anything to do with her. This whole situation has really torn my family apart because the rest of my family acts like nothing is wrong and they continue to have her over during family parties, but my dad doesn’t want to see her because he thinks its wrong that they are basically enabling her. They think that we can make it through this because we are family, but they are wrong. Its been so difficult not seeing my huge family all the time. My dad is also a police officer, by the way. Anyway, I don’t know what to do because basically we are all against each other?
Also, you will probably think that we should put her into rehab; we have tried, she refuses. She has been an addict for 20 years, and we have tried so many times that there is no use anymore. If she wants to get help, she will, but she doesn’t. It’s not like we can make her fix herself. I also want to add that my cousins and I barely talk anymore…they side with their parents thinking we are the bad guys and that we are being unloving , stubborn and selfish, so we can’t get through one conversation without it brought up. But, my cousins do have sleepovers and get togethers with eachother, and exclude my brother and I. Any advice will work…just please help :[

Also, I like to read, so I was wondering if anyone knows any books that I could read about similar situations like this, or something.

My friend is an alcoholic, he cannot go a day without some sort of drink. We’re both only 15, I’m on the A honor role and I know hes a smart kid too. He just doesn’t give himself the ambition to go up and beyond. He usually drinks vodka and beer, I have no idea if his parents know about this or care. I suspect he’s taking the alcohol from his parents stash. On a given day you wouldn’t know he’d had a drink, because hes normal and blends in. Today I asked him why he was so ticked off and got irritated so easily. He said it was because he hadn’t drank anything and was sober.
I now know he drinks in the morning. He gets normal grades and doesn’t miss school. I’m not going to tell the school councilors because once they know you have any kind of problem you go to a rehab center, every kid that’s been sent there comes back with worse problems. I’m not saying all councilors are like that but the ones at my school are NOT professionals and I would never trust them.

I will not tell his parents either because they already know and won’t do anything about it or they’ll beat the crap out of him. He is not a violent kid and if he’s feeling on edge he will warn you and others to refrain him. There are many kids that do drink, mabey thats what configures him to see little wrong with this act. I did tell him when he was sober that hes smart and drinkings not good for him. Eventually when he goes back to drinking all the time, it’s that much of an adiction.

This mainly bothered me because I know I’m one of the people that he trusts and I was thinking about everyone and what they’ed grow up to be. I saw him sitting in a junky house , whatching TV with a beer can in his hand and bottles littering the house. I don’t want him to end up like that.

What do I say to him?

How can I help him?

I know kids do worse stuff in my school, but this bothered me a lot. I know he can do better.

How do I get him there?

For my reasons I realy can’t tell anyone about this because I am being kept a close eye on by the courthouse because of my parents divorce. If I admit to having contact with a friend that drinks I will be assumed of having bad qualitys. It’s complicated.

I will tell my mom who I can trust, she also has a Masters degree in psychology.

Thanks for reading.

Please do not tell me what i should have done to remain a virgin… I know good and well .i lost my virginity it at 14 1/2 after sept 11 to be exact… lot of things contributed… bad advice, fear of the world ending and it not being something i experienced, and low self-esteem. later i lost both of my parents a year apart of each other.

I try to stop but i do it for the false companionship…. sometimes i try to keep one partner to cut down on the numbers but i lose interest quick and find another. I have been hurt by many of them and only 5 meant anything to me. I do it to releave stress but i do get depressed and regret it but i cant seem to say no.. i day dream about sex and notice that one of the first things i do when i meet a guy is judge on how good it would feel to be with them sexually.

I’ve had only 2 longterm relationships… and very faithful but when im not in a relationship i cant control myself
* telling myself it isnt right.. i am worth more … etc. does not work trust i am about to be an insurance agent. Im an orphan who takes care of my younger sis and her daughter and live in a townhouse. get paid nicely. am very beautiful and talented. But i cannot control my impulse to have sex! and i wanna stress impulse because i really think that i do it just to do it. I wanna be loved having no parents leaves a big emotional gap and i wanna fill it but how can i do that if i cant resist sleeping with someone before i get them to really know me. I again wanna say i dont think i have low self esteem i just really cant say no to sexual situations and i sometimes create them… I should get help right? am i alone?
* My parents know i was not a virgin i told them.. we were very close yes they wer disappointed. but bottomline was they were there for me. IMy father did tell me that i need to be careful that a sexual addiction runs in the family( i actually have an uncle with 26 kids/ 6 being from his current wife) could this be what is happening. is this a part of my heritage or did his words subconsciously stay in my mind and trigger this behaviour
lmao not a fear of the world ending! when i lost it.. that was one of the reasons .. seems dumb but i was still a child:(

I’m not even 18 yet and I’m having trouble with my money. I have spent thousands of dollars on clothes in the last year – EVERY single one of my paychecks has gone to nothing but clothes, shoes, makeup, purses, jewelry, etc. and I can’t help it! Every time I go shopping I ALWAYS spend at least $100 and in the last week I bought a pair of 7 For All Mankind jeans, along with True Religions and Guess jeans too. Not to mention a bedspread from Victoria’s Secret and tons of shirts from a new store. (Everything I own HAS to be brand name.) I have even started to borrow money from my mom, and I don’t know what to do; my boyfriend tells me to buy stuff along with my mom and then after I buy it, I get told to stop spending money (by my boyfriend). I went to Guess a few days ago, tried on so many cute things I realllllly want but would total almost $400. My boyfriend even took away my card but gave it back later. PLEASE HELP!!!

I started having panic attacks a year ago (first week back at 2nd semester freshman year) and I was put on ativan(to stop my panic attacks) and celexa (which made it worse) then switched to zoloft maybe it helped maybe not. I don’t really know because I started taking mass amounts of oxycontin everyday which seemed to mask alot of my symptoms some of the time and other times it made me crazy…especially with the withdrawls. I have been mostly sober for about a month( i used a few times since then. nothing crazy. In the last month I have seen a therapist for my mental stuff, a counsler for my drug stuff, and a psychiatrist for medication for my mental stuff. I am now on 150mg zoloft, 900 mg neurontin, 50 mg serequel, and 1 mg ativan as needed with my panic attacks. So far I can’t tell if it’s working just makes me kinda tired, Just wondering if anyone has had sucess with this drug combo or similar to it. Or what combo worked for you. Any suggestions how to deal with my panic attacks without meds?
Just curious I know everyone responds to medication differently.

Me and my brother have always been close and together all the time. My mom and my dad divorced when we were little and then when I was 14 and brother was 10 we moved with my mom to united states. She got married and we lived with step-dad for two years. Then, she divorced him and moved to another city and she has been single ever since. It hasn’t been easy on her. She worked non-stop. I was always around my brother. I always gave him what my mom couldn’t- my time, listened to him, supported him emotionally and guided him. I was non-judgmental and best friend. At the time I was 21 in college and he was 17 when he started playing poker on the computer excessively. My mom would always work and made sure we had food, but that was all. She always wanted thing her way and controlled us. We could never be ourselves around her. Me and my brother could talk to each other without barriers. Then, I met someone special and we fell in love. My mom disapproved of him and kicked me out of the house. I have been living with my boyfriend for a year now. He is the love of my love and I am extremely happy.A month ago my brother graduated from high school and he became even more distant from my mom. She would only see him in the morning when he would go back. She forced him to go to college in another city where they offered him a scholarship and he refused. She kicked him out of the house and now from a smart kid, captain of a soccer team he turned into a gambler, hanging out with unmotivated friends, working a low paid job and in danger all the time. He gave up his scholarship, soccer and college. I know him so well and I am just shocked to see him like this. Some say it is lack of a father figure that caused that, others say it is my fault because we were so close and he felt like he had a family to talk to and that me leaving so suddenly completely shut him down. His best friend moved to another state. A girl he was seeing dumbed him for her ex. His sister he loves so much left so sudden. His mom kicked him out. His dad is all the way in another country. I feel terribly sad … What do yall think is the strongest trigger for his behavior? At this point, how can we get him out of his bad environment and motivate him to go to college? How can we stop his dangerous poker addiction? PLz anyone help! I need professional opinions
