Question by koley: Do I have a right to a leave of absence from work for alcohol rehab?
In spite of a recent loss of control with my drinking, I have been doing very well at my new job. It has been recommended that I complete a 28-day in-patient rehabilitation program, and I am trying to decide what to do about my job. I’m not expecting a paid leave; just that my job still be available when I return.

What HIPAA rights might I have? Should I be honest with HR about why I’m leaving?

Best answer:

Answer by Meritaten
If you have a health issue of any kind that makes you unable to work temporarily you should be able to be signed off with a doctors note. Though employers vary- some are happy to wait whie others cannot hold on, but when it comes to health- health comes first, so get advice from your doctor and they’ll advise you on the way to do it. Good luck!

Question by cakeeater321: Will a stay in drug rehab prevent me from joining the navy?
i have been considering the navy recently and i am afraid that my stay in rehab for a heroin problem 6 months ago will have an impact on my ability to join up. i went into rehab of my own will but i left before the program was complete. Some people have told me to lie about it considering i am clean now and will pass the drug test. other people have told me that if i lie down the line they will find out if i need certain security clearances and i could face jail time. any advice?

Best answer:

Answer by DorkVader
It could have create some bumps for ability to get into the Navy. But you can probably get a waiver for it. You just need to prove that you are practicing sobriety now. It might take you a while to get in and be a little bit of work but I think it can happen.

When I was in boot camp there was a guy in my division who had had a meth problem. He had NO teeth from the meth. So if he can get in I’d bet you could.

Just stay sober no matter what happens. It’s the best thing for you to do.

Talk to a recruiter about it they can help guide you through it.

I was engaged from 9 month now from 2 month ago I discovered that my fiancée is an addicted from 10 years I get shocked and I went with him to take Narcotics Anonymous is an international, community-based association of recovering drug addicts. I paid all the money for him I was visiting him almost 3 days per week (so far from my area), I covered him at work, I discover his parent know and they thought if he get engaged he will stop taking the drags!! he spend 2 month there and there’s 4 month other, you can say he is in the recovery period but I’m the last one he think of me he keep saying that he loves and can’t live with out me ….. but it’s just only word without actions and I’m really feel so lonely; people around me take care of me more him.. he‘s in the recovery period so I feel he is discover life for the first time.. I thought when he became normal he will makeup to me. And his family make a contact with only the vacation day to take care of him.i made lot nothing in return

Question by I Block Stupid People: Does anyone know of natural pain management techniques that could be used during recovery from surgery?
I have bad reactions to narcotics and don’t want to overdo the ibuprophen. I’m having a planned orthopedic surgery later this year…had a similar surgery ten years ago and the post-operative pain was the worst pain I’ve ever been in. Does anyone know of some natural (do-it-yourself type) techniques to manage pain that will be pretty much constant for about a week or so?
Massage, ice packs and chiropractic are not going to help at all for localized post-operative pain where my foot will most likely be in a cast. Try again.

Best answer:

Answer by rockdoc
Massage, ice packs and Chiropractic! Good luck!

Question by sickofbeingsick: My PCP told me he received a letter from my insurance stating concern over the amount of narcotics I consume?
Here’s a little break-down: I have had 3 different cancers, 15 surgeries in relation to said cancers, 6 months of chemo, radiation, MS, and massive chronic pain. I have been put on Vicodin numerous times over the last 4 years. I managed to get myself off of Vicodin until my most recent (and most horrific) colon cancer surgery. I willingly went back on it, but in the last 8 months of recovery, I’ve had a lot of complications (which means, a lot of pain). Two weeks ago, I went to my PCP, told him I wanted to start weaning myself off the stuff, I asked for a lower dosage, and he simply said to break the pills in half.
Today, according to my prescription bottle, I am “due” to get a refill. However, I still have 35-40 pills left. The irony in this is that I had called PCP to inquire about something totally not related to Vicodin, and he responded, “I have a letter from your insurance saying they are concerned about the amount of Narcotics you are taking.” I said, “Wha?” After a moment of stunned silence, I told him I take what he prescribes, reminded him I asked for LESS, and said, “I’ll tell you what I have been saying to all of my doctors for the last four years. Find the reason I have so much unbearable pain once and for all, fix it, and I will gladly agree to NEVER EVER EVER take a pain med again.”

Here is the weirder thing. I immediately called my insurance to confront them. They searched every department, every person, every paper, you name it. They have NO record of sending a letter, and the rep had said, “That doesn’t even sound like something we would write, anyway!” She told me to ask my doctor to fax this letter to her so they could try to track it.

I also called my pharmacy. They know very well the struggle I have with juggling my many medicines, have been very good at catching interactions, so I wondered if they were the culprit.

“Nope. We don’t send those.”

My question is, WHAT THE HECK?!?!?!?!?
Thank you in advance for your help.
sarah314-your answer is awesome! One question based on that: I had called the insurance rep first, she checked automated letters first, looked into my general notes second, and LAST, she did call the PBM who said there was nothing, either. That did get me to wonder one bizarre thing, though. I changed cell phones and never updated my number with them (just got an angry letter from them demanding I call to authorize one of my meds). Is there any connection, do you think?
