Question by chelsea: Does anybody know where I can find an alcohol rehab in New York?
I want to turn my father in. His drinking habits are really affecting the family. He’s become temperamental and violent that he gets upset about the tiniest things. Like, just the other night, he punched my brother just because he asked for money to spend for his science project. My mom died a few years ago and I don’t know what else to do. I’m really worried about the future of our family.

We’re really strapped for cash. My husband got fired from his job because they discovered that he’s using heroin. My income alone will not be enough to get him into a drug rehab. One of my three sons is already working, but he’s already got his own family to feed so I really can’t ask for too much. We have no relatives nearby and I don’t know anyone whom I could turn to for financial assistance. Can anybody give me ideas on how I can put my husband through drug rehab? And please don’t say I need to get a part-time job, because I’m already doing that every spare time I’ve got.

Perhaps your husband can get an outpatient methadone prescription which you will have to keep out of the hands of your three children.

Check to see if it will show up on drug tests. This will buy some time for your husband. He can get a job and save the money for rehab. If he doesn’t want to get a second part-time job, he can maintain the house while you work nights. See if there is a job in your field that will pay more money.

Also see if your other two children can get jobs. They should put their cash in the bank rather than bring it home.

You can also ask around at the nearest hospital. The doctors or nurses there can provide you with recommendations. I hope your father recovers soon. It’s always tough having a drug addict in the family. Just hold on and stay strong. :)

Finding a drug rehab in Moorpark, California is not much of a problem. With the help of the Internet and telephone, I am sure you’ll be able to find one near your place. You can begin with the links I’ve posted below. They will certainly be of great help. However, I think that the bigger issue is how you’re going to tell the problem to your friend’s parents. If there are people who could help him more than anybody else, they’re his parents. I think you should convince your buddy to confide to his mom and dad, too.

I just really want to help an old friend of mine. We’ve been friends since childhood and I didn’t anticipate that it would end up like this– that she would someday (which is now) be an alcoholic. A good thing to do would be to take her to a doctor. The doctor will be able to assess her situation as well as tell you of the treatment programs and alcohol rehab that you should take her to. You can also check out the links below that I have provided. These contain lists of the alcohol rehabs in the area you have specified. I really hope that your friend gets well soon. It’s always tough to see a loved one suffering from the effects of alcohol addiction. Good luck.

There’s this Center for Marital and Family therapy in Manhattan. You could try checking that out and see if they do treatment programs for alcoholics like you. Otherwise, they could help you patch up things with your husband and to better your relationships at home.

I think it would be good if she applies for a grant from the government. She can also use the second link below to contact alcohol rehabs and ask them if they would be willing to give her a discount or have her pay off her bills at a later date. If those don’t work, she could just opt to join AA. It will really help her. Good luck!
