At theUnited Nations High Level Meeting on HIV/AIDS in 2006, world leaders reaffirmed that the full realization of all human rights and fundamental freedoms for all is an essential element in the global response to the HIV/AIDS pandemic. Yet, 25 years into the AIDS epidemic, the essential element remains the missing piece in the fight against AIDS. International organizations produced the joint statement: “Human Rights and HIV/AIDS Now More Than Ever – 10 Reasons Why Human Rights Should Occupy the Center of the Global AIDS Struggle”. This joint statement, endorsed by over 650 organizations and networks worldwide, affirms that, now more than ever, human rights should occupy the center of the global struggle against HIV and AIDS. The Hungarian Civil Liberties Union produced a series of short films to help explain why human rights is so important, and to call organizations worldwide to join the call and endorse the joint statement at: www.HIVhumanrightsnow.org

We have been friends for 8 months. We started off just being like causual friends, and then we went to breaks together and then started going to lunch together. He is the first person in my life that I could ever open up to, he knows my secrets, my fears, and everything that goes on with me. And he has opened up with me. At the time of our friendship he was engaged to a girl he had been dating for 5 years. But they broke up when she went into rehab and he made it clear he wanted nothing to do with her. We started getting closer in March and we exchanged numbers and started texting each other. We both told each other we liked one another and we both decided to date. The entire time we were dating everything was good, he even told me he was falling for me. Everything was fine for about 5 days and then he told me one day that his ex was on her way to our work because he had told her he was falling for me and he said he would be right there beside me. When she got there everything ended.
We decided not to be friends and he told me to understand that he was still in love with her. I told him I couldn’t understand when he told me he had fallen for me. I came back to work two days later and explained my life would be better with him as a friend then nothing at all. We decided to go to lunch to talk everything through. We started to talk and he kept staring at me. He said his heart was with her but his mind was with something else, and i asked him what was on his mind and he said he wanted to kiss me and he did. That was the start of everything. From that day on we have been friends with benefits and we talk and text everyday. Him and her are no longer even togther, he doesnt want anything with her. I even lost my virginity to him a few months ago. But here’s the tricky thing. He knows I am in love with him but he doesn’t want a relationship. And he says he doesn’t love me but I am his best friend and promised not to hurt me when I know he has feelings. Why is he lying?
I am still friends with benefits with him and we talk everyday. He is my best friend and I am his. He has three kids. But I know he has feelings and he is too scared to admit it.
Not to mention he has told me after everything that he likes me and cares as much for me as he did about her.

when it comes to drinking culture? The reason I ask is because I’ve noticed that in college, many black people I know don’t drink beer, preferring hard liquor instead (I’m generalizing, but I go to a small school that doesn’t have that many black people, so I know I’m not shooting in the dark). There are also differences prior to drinking age, with black teenagers tending to drink less than their white counterparts, with the figures leveling out as age increases.

I’m well aware that race in this equation could be substituted for a combination of ethnic/class/upbringing factors, but it’s no secret that beverages like Alize and Hennessy are targeted at an ummm, more “melnin enriched” demographic and it isn’t by accident.

I just want to know whether you think there is a clear and cut reason for this. If you don’t believe a difference exists, feel free to express your opinion. Also, while this question is obviously geared to an American audience, non-Americans are welcomed to offer their thoughts and experiences
Silly Fart- It’s funny you mention that because I was originally going to skew this question to a male audience because I’m well aware of the fact that alot of women eschew beer because of the calories. I should also note that America is a binge drinking culture, especially in our demographic. Not many people drink on non-weekend nights.
