My husband is a confessed porn addict. he has phases where he goes without porn for weeks and weeks and then relapses into daily secret sessions of online porn indulgment and mastrubation. After educating myself about this subject and him trying to find a help theraphy group I realized this is a very tough problem. He confessed that he needs professional help and wants to get rid of this habit. I understand from talking to him and reading alot about it that he uses porn as a way of dis associating himself from his inner fears and anxieties and uses porn as pain killers in order to numb himself emotionally. But what I dont understand is why he cant have sex with me. We have in average one and a half time sex per month. (By half I mean just oral). I dont need no comments here like I am not sexy or what not I am a very sexy very attractive woman. He has always been that way with every prior gf before me and has always chosen porn over sex. And had sporadic sex lives with his partners. He sais he is weird in that sense. Is their anyone out there who knows and understands this type of behaviour?
The point is I never knew about him being addicted to porn until far into our relationship and I find it very unfair that I do find myself in a situation I have neither caused nor can help. I can sleep with him walk around him naked if it is not porn he doesnt get aroused. I know that I dont want to deal with it but I have to because we have 2 children . I am tired of being sexually frsutrated knowing I just need to walk to a local CVS and find a guy who will take care of me. It sucks that the man I love and sacrificed for doesnt see me sexually. Well, if I will cheat on him in the future he cant blame me. Its hard to say what the future holds but since it is something he cant just shake off its unlikely to change and thus I feel very tempted to say that I will cheat. Because its simply unfair to me. What does he think? I shall just deal with it and suck it up??? I am a woman in my 20ies WTF is he thinking??? I know I should just leave but thats practically impossible.

My brother is a crack addict and has been using for about 15 years. He has been though rehab several times and can stay clean for a few months at a time, then goes right back to it.

Every time he gets money in his pocket, he binges till it’s gone. Mom and dad have tried helping him handle his money and keep his bills paid, but he gets mad when he asks for money and it isn’t there because they used it to pay his bills. He rages at them for “stealing” his money.

Then he gets little side jobs and takes the cash on his own, and wastes every penny on crack. The last time he did this was 2 weeks ago, he was talking about needing to take his money and pay insurance and get tags for his vehicle, then he spent it all.

We have all enabled him to a certain point, Mom and dad co-signed to get him a boat during one of his clean stages, so he could make money fishing. He catches fish and sells them, keeping all the money to spend as he will, leaving my parents to pay his boat payment. They have only been able to keep enough of his money to pay 3 payments in the past year. They have paid the rest.

He asked me yesterday if I could handle his money for him and make sure his bills are paid. We sat down and figured out how much he needs to give me each month to make his bills and made a ledger. I stressed to him that he wouldnt be able to get advances from the bill money, when he runs out of pocket money, he is out till next payday. He agreed so this is set up now.

We are doing what we can to help him without enabling him to continue with this destructive behavior.

Now for the question… He just informed me that he has asked his current girlfriend to marry him. She knows of his past use, but he is pretending it is all behind him now. He wont tell her he “slipped” again a couple of weeks ago, he says it’s all in his past. I feel like she should know that he is still using occasionally. I know if I say anything to her, my whole family will get mad at me for “ruining” his chances to be happy. But if I dont feel right sitting by and letting this good woman walk into this situation blind.

My brother is a wonderful man when he isn’t using, but when he goes on his binges and spends all his money he gets verbally abusive to anyone trying to confront him about his crack use. We are both in our 40′s so it isn’t a teenage thing. Is there anyone that can give me insights on how to deal with this situation?
Thank you so much for all the great answers.

My brother and I have talk a lot about his use, possible triggers, and tips to stay clean. He thinks his last binge was triggered by drinking and thinks that may have been a factor in the past few binges.

He is really trying hard to work on this problem and I’m the only one he will talk honestly to about it. At least on this last one, when he realized I wasn’t buying into his excuses, he admitted it to me and talked about it with me.

I’m still undecided about the girlfriend though.

I have a very close friend – almost family really – that was doing meth for about 2-3 years. Noone knew and he got away with it for a long time. He was finally caught because his boss confronted him. His boss told him he had to go to rehab because meth is not something you can just stop ‘cold turkey’ without help. BUT he didn’t. He said he stopped, took a drug test {one of those hair tests that tests back 90 days} for work and passed but I’m scard that without this help he will eventually go back.

I have read statistics that say that only less than 6% of meth users go back to it if they don’t receive the proper treatment. Does anyone know if this is true? Any other statistics that you can share.

We want to become roommates but I’m scared that he will eventually go back to this.

Any information would be appreciated!

Just don’t say “I could tell you but then I’d have to kill you” because I have heard that line more than enough.

I was talking with a military family, about my friend who is in the VA hosp now on Psych unit (Honorable Discharge from the Air Force, after 6 years service, rank of Sergeant at E4, Special Ops and Honor Guard) and someone said “It’s good then that your friend was in Special Ops’ because they never fully discharge- the Air Force can call them back to active Special Op’s any time if they are fit to serve and the VA has a kinda obligation to try to rehabilitate them if they become unfit to serve and are evaluated and considered capable of rehabilitation.”

Anyone have a fact-based response to this?
My friend did have overseas service but no combat service, nothing that is documented in the discharge paperwork. I understand all that stuff is ‘secret’ but surely there are some regulations that are NOT secret?

What obligations does my friend have to the Air Force and what obligations does the VA and the Air Force have to my friend?
My friend was discharged more than 8 years ago.
My friend was in Air Force in the 80′s- The US was not officially engaged in any war at that time. The Honor Guards and the Special Ops training did not occur at the same time. Both were regarded as a way to break to monotony of fixing heating cooling and cabin pressure systems on fighter jets. And an opportunity to wear a different uniform.
Like I just said- my friend was an E4 Sergeant with Honorable Discharge in the 1980′s. Jeepers, some people just don’t read, do they?
