You’re telling us what were not suppose to say. Interesting. You’re asking for help but with limits. I think I know why you’re an alcoholic then. But, you don’t want my answer so that’s all I’m saying.

`God` won`t help you to quit. There are loads of religious alcoholics, who have been alkies all their lives.
I have no doubt many have secretly prayed to God to help them, but he never has.

Put your faith in yourself, in your own will power and resolve – it is all you have.

You just have to find a reason on your own to quit. Take a step back from the world and look around and figure out your own reason to quit drinking. I think it’s funny when people tell you you need Gods help to quit drinking. When their own religion says that God made you an alcoholic to begin with.

This may or may not help. In some cases we see an underlying cause of the abuse which manifests itself in addiction. There certainly is such a thing as chemical dependency but more often than not, the individual doesn’t feel right in the head and therefore longs for the escape alcohol or whatever provides. Some clinical studies have shown a link between depression and abuse. Human beings inately want to be happy and have a general sense of well being. If that is not the case often times we see binge drinking and abuse until we reach that state of mind. Personally speaking I was a full fledged alcoholic and nothing made me happier than when I was out drinking all night. The problem came when others saw the booze taking over my life. I tried many step treatments and counciling to no avail. I would go weeks with out a single drop of alcohol and it was miserable. I felt depressed all the time and realized that the problem wasnt the alcohol but rather with in my self. When I got help for depression my whole life turned around. I no longer wanted to go out and get totally bombed and wasted anymore. I still have drink once in a long while but the desire to abuse is gone. I hope this helps.

my brother died of lung cancer and alcholism. He was 41. it was too late for him. alcohol is poison, allow this sounds ridiculous to many readers, instead if taking a full glass of whatever you are drinking (use the same liquor if possible), and instead of filling in up, put little less in your class. and use that amount. then next day, alittle lesser, etc. could take months-but it does work. Or there is a form of medicine called antabuse, maybe get from the doctor. that will make you quit if you take the meds. Good luck!

There are many aids to help a person quit drinking:
1] Visit drug rehabs to see and talk to people who have been addicted
to drugs and alcohol, and reinforce in your mind the importance of
getting and staying clean. Go to a driving seminar by your
state police to see and hear about the deaths associated with
alcoholism.
2] Make a list of the ways alcoholism has negatively affected your
life and relationships.
3] Most alcoholics and drug addicts use because of hurts and
emotional pain that they are afraid to face and deal with in
healthy ways. Be honest with yourself on why you drink to
excess. Get therapy from a professional to help deal
effectively with these issues.
4] Many alcoholics suffer from hypoglycemia and nutritional
disorders that contribute to the power of the addiction. Get on
a healthy diet and exercise regimen. Get a full physical
including blood workup to eliminate health issues.
5] Work on developing healthy relationships [avoid relationships that
would tempt you to drink] and fun hobbies to help minimize stress.

Try going to a local health and nutrition store in your area. Ask them if there is an alternative healing clinic in the area. There they will discuss with you the unconventional ways of dealing with your illness, and Alcoholism is an illness. An Alternative Healing Clinic will introduce you to herbs and minerals that have amazing healing properties. (I keep a Tuning Fork and a Crystal in my nightstand – these items do amazing things to draw out the pain in my legs as the result of a crash seven years ago.)
An AH Clinic uses Acupuncture, Massage Therapy and Hypnosis as a few of their techniques. They may introduce you to Spirituality, NOT to be confused with the God of the Bible stuff but spirits of the body and mind. Shamanism is a more contemporary approach to our ailments.
I am not a recovering alcoholic but I know what pain is and how to deal with it both physically and emotionally. I am not preaching Shamanism either, but I find it interesting and I think you may find it worthwhile in treating your problem with booze.
The fact is that the Mayo Clinic has opened an Alternative Healing Clinic in Onalaska, Wisconsin. So, what have you got to loose?

AA was developed in the 1930′s and it’s modeled after the bible, because that was the only ‘therapy’ they knew. But the God thing turns a lot of people off.

If you are not religious, you can still make the program work for you.

The program is not preachy. Today they say God is as you understand it – something that you can reach out to in times of stress, cravings etc. -something that will provide you comfort.

Some people think of a person who died, someone who you love and miss – a spirit. Others find a particular scene in nature that’s awesome – reminding you of peace.You can create any spiritual meaning that works for you. The point is that you ‘keep coming back’, get a sponsor and join a sober community.

Don’t let the religious talk turn you off, there’s a lot of good stuff at AA. Take it on your own terms.
